Stay safe in golf and avoid these injuries

The common misconception about golf is that being a low-impact sport (compared to say boxing and football), the risk of injury is pretty low. The truth is that the foundation of golf relies heavily on strict rules such as proper posture. As such, you can easily injure yourself if you play the game the wrong way.


The most common injury rookie golfers experience is back pain. As mentioned earlier, this is due to bad posture. All those hours hunching over the ball trying to hit it with a club puts a lot of stress on the lower back. Practicing on form and strengthening the lower back with core exercises is a good way to overcome this hurdle.

Any problems with rotator cuffs in the shoulders are quite annoying. Due to the nature of golf, rotator cuff injuries are also pretty common. Since golfers swing anywhere between 50 to 200 times a day, the ligaments and joints in these cuffs can experience some wear and tear. Stretching and upper body workouts can do you good to prevent rotator cuff pain.


Another common injury is tendinitis in the wrist and elbows. Like rotator cuff injuries, this is caused by wear and tear, and swinging with the wrong form. Practicing on form is the sure-fire way to avoid this.
